Teaching asks a lot. We know what it feels like to carry the weight of expectations while juggling the unpredictable realities of life inside and outside the classroom. The questions do not stop when the school day ends, and for many, they eventually collapse into one quiet question:
Am I doing enough?
When I decided to become a teacher, I knew I did not want to enter the profession alone. I reached out to friends with backgrounds in education, educators I was introduced to, and even teachers whose work I had come across and admired. Some were people I knew. Others were strangers I emailed and asked to meet. Again and again, they listened, shared what they had learned, and helped me see what I could not yet see for myself.
I also had something many teachers never receive: a dedicated mentor coach. Having someone who listened, asked thoughtful questions, challenged my thinking, and offered practical guidance helped shape how I approached teaching and professional growth from the very beginning.
Starting with that support from day one helped me grow with greater confidence, learn how to sustain myself in the profession, and recognize opportunities I might otherwise have assumed were out of reach. Over time, I had the opportunity to contribute to projects with the California Department of Education and other respected organizations working in education, and I was honored to receive the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award.
Those experiences required hard work, but they were also shaped by the wisdom, encouragement, and guidance of the mentors and colleagues who invested in me.
When I later moved districts, I saw how uneven that kind of support could be. In one school, mentorship was built in. In the next, teachers were piecing it together on their own. Support became something you had to hunt for instead of something you could count on.
That gap is what Teacherville was created to help close.
It is not another burden or district initiative. It is a place where you can step in, take what helps, and keep moving at your own pace, when you need it most.
